Updated: Mar 26

If you're a business owner, entrepreneur, or creative using Instagram to grow your brand, this one’s for you. Whether you're just getting started or making sure everything is set up the right way, this quick and easy checklist will help you get your Instagram working for you.

I’ve worked in marketing for over a decade, so trust me when I say these are the easiest, most impactful things you can do NOW to make your business Instagram stronger. Let’s go!

1. Make Your Profile Public

This might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people still have their business profiles set to private. If people can’t see your content, they can’t follow or engage with you. Go to your settings and make sure your account is public—visibility is everything!

2. Make Your Handle Easy to Find

Your @handle is your Instagram identity, so make it simple, clear, and easy to remember. Avoid unnecessary numbers, special characters, or anything confusing (even if you think your handle is reallllly funny and witty). If possible, keep it consistent across all your social media platforms so people can find you instantly.

3. Use a Recognizable Profile Picture

Your profile picture is your brand’s first impression. Whether it’s your logo or a professional headshot, it should be clear, high-quality, and easy to recognize (even as a tiny thumbnail). This makes your brand instantly identifiable when people scroll through their feeds.

4. Make Your Bio Clear About What You Do

You’ve got seconds to grab attention, so your bio should instantly communicate what you do and who you serve. Keep it short, direct, and easy to understand—and don’t forget a call-to-action (CTA)! Whether it’s “DM me for custom orders” or “Click below to book a call,” give people an easy next step.

5. Link to Your Website (or Main Platform)

Your Instagram bio is prime real estate—use it wisely. Add a link to your website, shop, blog, or wherever you want people to go next. If you have multiple links, use a link-in-bio tool like Linktree or Milkshake. The easier it is to find more info, the more likely people will take action. You want to make it as easy as possible for someone to pay you.

6. Pin Key Content

Instagram lets you pin up to three posts at the top of your profile—so take advantage! Pin your most important, best-performing, or most relevant posts so new visitors instantly see what you're all about. Whether it’s a promo, FAQ, or introduction post, this is a great way to highlight key info.

Easy right? But important!

Why These Tweaks Matter

Instagram is one of the best FREE tools to connect with your audience, build trust, and grow your business. And when your profile is set up correctly, it helps people find you, understand what you do, and take action—whether that’s following, booking, or buying. And guess what? These fixes take less than 10 minutes. So if you haven’t already, go make those tweaks right now!
