You Don’t Need a Perfect Plan—Just One Micro Move Forward

You've likely been there—waiting for the perfect time, the perfect plan, or the perfect idea before taking action. But here’s the thing: progress doesn’t come from perfection; it comes from movement. And that movement doesn’t have to be huge.

My coaching clients (many with multiple passions) come to me feeling stuck staring at their big picture—the full scope of what they want to accomplish—leaving them paralyzed with the weight of everything they want to happen, the endless decisions, and the uncertainty of where to start…It's understandable that would make someone freeze. This is called decision paralysis!

You overthink, second-guess, and before you know it, days (or months) have passed, and you’re still standing in the same spot.

And that’s where micro moves come in. Instead of focusing on the entire journey, you focus on one small, manageable step. One simple action that moves you forward. Because once you take that first step - the next one feels a little easier. And then another. And another. Before you know it, you’re in motion—and motion is what leads to momentum.

SMALL STEPS LEAD TO BIG MOVES

Why Micro Moves Matter

Micro moves are the tiny but mighty actions that keep you moving forward. They might feel insignificant in the moment, but they build momentum, create habits, and help you get unstuck.

THEY CAN:

Build Momentum – Every small action creates a ripple effect. The more you move forward, the easier it gets to keep going.

Reduce Overwhelm – Tackling a big goal all at once? Terrifying. Breaking it down into micro moves? Totally doable. You got this!

Create Habits – Repeating small actions consistently leads to lasting habits that support your long-term success.

Build a Path Forward – You don’t need to see the entire staircase to take the first step. Micro moves help you learn, pivot, and grow along the way.

Give You More Wins to Celebrate – Each micro move is a mini-victory, giving you motivation to keep moving forward.

Compound Over Time – Small, consistent efforts add up to major results. One day you will look back and see how far you've come. (Look how far you've come already!)

Minimize Decision Paralysis – Overthinking keeps you stuck. Committing to just one small action eliminates the stress of figuring out the “perfect” next step.

Not sure what a micro move looks like? Here are some easy ways to make progress TODAY without overcomplicating it:

Want to start a business? Buy the domain name (this can always change, nothing is set in stone), post about your idea, or research others that inspire you.

Need to get more visible? Share a behind-the-scenes story, comment on someone’s post, or update your bio.

Want to learn a new skill? Watch a 5-minute tutorial, sign up for a free class, or practice for just 10 minutes today.

Struggling to network? Send one email, reply to a DM, RSVP to an event, introduce yourself to someone new.

Want to get more organized? Declutter your space for 15 minutes, create/find a task management system (write down your tasks), get all your meetings/deadlines out of your head and into a planner.

Trying to create social media content? Start a google doc or open your notes and start brain dumping everything you know. You know more than you think!

I know this seems like a simple concept—just take one small step forward. So why don’t more people do it?

Because taking action—even a tiny one—requires something most people struggle with: trusting themselves.

When you’ve been stuck in overthinking mode for a while, it’s easy to convince yourself that you don’t know enough, aren’t ready, or might make the wrong move. The fear of messing up, wasting time, or choosing the “wrong” path can feel bigger than the idea of staying comfortable. So instead of trusting yourself to figure things out as you go, you wait. For more certainty, for a sign, for a "perfect plan" that will guarantee success.

If you’ve been holding yourself back, ask yourself:

  • Am I waiting for perfection instead of allowing myself to learn as I go?

  • If I knew success was inevitable, what would I do right now?

  • Am I afraid of making a mistake, or am I afraid of trusting myself to handle whatever happens?

  • If I knew there was no “wrong” first step, what small action would I take right now?

  • If I looked back a year from now, would I regret not starting today?

  • Who am I not helping by not showing up?

  • What’s one small actionable step I can take today that future me would thank me for?

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to trust yourself enough to take one step forward. The rest will reveal itself along the way.

No matter what your goal is, there is always a micro move you can take forward. And once you take that first step - the next one gets easier. Need a hype gal in your corner to help with your micro-moves? Let's chat!
